San Javier Community
The town of San Javier was founded in 1706 and obtained status as an autonomous municipality in 1934. The community has been a hub of small-scale mining activity from colonial times through to the post-independence era of Mexico and into today.
The San Javier region was founded as a mining community and has a long history of support for the mineral industry and for extractive initiatives. The area benefits from extensive mining infrastructure and an abundance of experienced miners and mineral industry professionals.
There are 75 members of the San Javier Ejido. Canuc, through it’s subsidiary Minera Stramin SA de CV, has maintained favorable relations with the Ejido of San Javier and its leadership since first entering the town for work in 2009. Canuc has been a long-term sponsor of the San Javier youth baseball team ‘Los Mineros de San Javier’ and has sponsored several initiatives for maintenance and upkeep of the town’s primary school and church.
In December of 2022 Canuc’s wholly owned subsidiary signed a comprehensive, long-term agreement with the Ejido of San Javier which was voted on at a scheduled community meeting and which received unanimous community support. The agreement allows for exploration without charge for a period of 10 years with renewal permissions for an additional 10 years (until 2042).
