Community

Part of the communities where we work

A key pillar of Canuc’s Commitment to Excellence is to develop natural resource assets in support of community wellbeing, in Ontario, Sonora and Texas.

Canuc Resources Corporation (TSX-V: CDA · OTCQB: CNUCF · WKN: A41V6H) is an IOCG discovery company exploring the 100%-owned East Sudbury Project, Ontario and San Javier Silver-Gold Project, Sonora, with natural gas cash flow from the MidTex Energy Project, Texas.

The East Sudbury Project, including the Scadding Gold Tailings Project, is on Ontario Crown Land and the traditional territory of the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek and Wahnapitae First Nations.

East Sudbury Community

Canuc’s East Sudbury Project (ESP) is located 20 km northeast of Sudbury, Ontario and is positioned on Ontario Crown Land in a globally competitive Tier 1 mining jurisdiction. Ontario Crown Land is public land, making up 87% of the Province’s land inventory, and provides opportunities for economic development including resource extraction and mining.

ESP is also located on the traditional territory of the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek and the Wahnapitae First Nations. Canuc, and its predecessor company, has engaged in proactive engagement and consultation, which has resulted in commercial opportunities for the company’s advancement of exploration and extractive initiatives.

Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, formerly known as the Whitefish Lake First Nation, is an Ojibway First Nation centred around Whitefish Lake, 20 km southwest of Sudbury. Wahnapitae First Nation is centred around the northwestern shore of Lake Wahnapitae, 30 km northeast of Sudbury. Both have a long history of support for responsible extractive initiatives in the greater Sudbury area.

Responsible development

The Ontario government advocates a progressive, pro-development agenda for responsible extractive initiatives with a particular focus on Critical Minerals. ESP hosts an abundance of Critical Minerals including copper, cobalt, platinum group metals and uranium, in addition to the gold evidenced by the history of gold mining on the property. The significant presence of Critical Minerals has attracted community and government support for development of the Project.

San Javier Community

The town of San Javier was founded in 1706 and obtained status as an autonomous municipality in 1934. The community has been a hub of small-scale mining activity from colonial times through to today, and benefits from extensive mining infrastructure and an abundance of experienced miners and mineral industry professionals.

There are 75 members of the San Javier Ejido. Canuc, through its subsidiary Minera Stramin SA de CV, has maintained favourable relations with the Ejido of San Javier and its leadership since first entering the town for work in 2009.
